Traditional Northern Irish Bread Making, Strangford Lough

Join Tracey in her Farmhouse Kitchen where you'll make Soda, Wheaten and Potato breads in the traditional way. You'll feast on homemade food and drink and you'll take home your breads along with the recipes.

Location

Description

Join Tracey in her kitchen on the shores of Strangford Lough in County Down, just 30 minutes from Belfast. A warm welcome awaits you with some homemade buttermilk soda bannock fresh from the oven and a cuppa. Then we get the aprons on…
You’ll be learning how to make and bake a variety of traditional griddle breads. As our soda breads, wheaten and potato breads are made on the griddle, they are all ready to eat within 15 minutes of making them. There is no need to weigh or measure anything – we make these breads by hand in the traditional way.

By then, you’ll have worked up an appetite. You can enjoy some of my delicious soda focaccia bread, and other sweet treats. Don’t worry, what you don’t eat, you can take home with you. Most people leave with plenty of homemade breads that are perfect to have as part of an Ulster Fry or with a cup of tea.

Tracey's Farmhouse Kitchen

A language Teacher and mother of two boys, Tracey started her career in tourism – teaching Customer Care to Hospitality Organisations many years ago!

Nowadays Tracey is always in her kitchen in her 18th century thatched cottage by the shores of beautiful Strangford Lough in County Down. She was keen to work around her young kids, and to be based in her kitchen which had a history of the unique northern Irish art of Soda Bread making. In 2016 she launched her company – Northern Ireland Food Tours and she hosted her first group of Visitors in her kitchen and invited them to join her in a traditional Irish bread making experience. It was a resounding success! Guests are welcomed to Tracey’s kitchen with the aroma of homemade breads coming off the Griddle. Everyone will feast on these treats along with hand rolled butters and Tracey’s homemade jams. Then Tracey will invite you to roll up your sleeves and get floury! Guests will take home the breads that they have made, which gives them a great sense of achievement.

“I’m very passionate about the experience that I offer” Tracey tells us. I am so lucky to work from my home and to live in an area of outstanding natural beauty and a Nature Reserve. I love sharing this part of N Ireland and telling Guests all about the area. Ultimately I am so passionate about Northern Ireland. We are so pleased to be able to welcome Visitors to N Ireland and I am privileged to be part of it. Tracey has been awarded 5 stars through Tourism NI for her experience.
